This book is about so much more than golf!

Honestly, I'm not such a super fan of golf that I would normally pick up a book on the topic. But this book by Gill is about so much more than golf! It's a fascinating, and also challenging, deep dive into the lives of Black caddies in the South. It's a book about American History, Black History, the South, White Supremacy, the human spirit, and factors driving societal change, as well as an entrée into the worlds of the premier golf clubs in the South. This is such a valuable and deeply researched book, and I highly recommend it to anyone even vaguely interested in golf, or those who want to learn more about the complexity of America.

A spectacular survey of the remarkable story of Native Americans and golf

I give this book, Native Links, my very highest rating. It explores the under-reported story Native Americans and golf, and how Native Americans patiently and carefully (but relentlessly) integrated a sport that didn’t allow many of the top Native golfers to even play. It is a historical book, but it’s never dry or dusty; the writing tone is that of popular journalism: intriguing, full of highly personal stories, and — at the end of the day — downright fascinating.

Nicer than I even expected

I had high expectations for this book but it’s even nicer than I expected. The quality of the book is wonderful. The photos are amazing. Really great stuff. This is the third book I’ve picked up from Back Nine Press and they’re all excellent. My son loves them too. Thanks and keep up the great work.

Dada, Golf!

I have a 2 year old daughter and she thinks every sport I watch on TV is Golf! Since I got the book for her on Christmas we’ve read it 2 times every night and I can’t wait to bring her out to walk around my local course and see the “Zoo” in real life. Great presentation of the game to the youngsters. Funny part is my wife has never played and my daughter now thinks she does and asks why she doesn’t come with me! 😂 I guess it’s soon to be a family function.

Uncle of the year, 4 years running!

I got my 3year old niece the Golfers Zoo and Hattie Goes Golfing for Christmas gifts this year, she loves them both. Every time I visit her we read them both front to back, one right after the other. I always find the best books to be those where I have a hard time "keeping up" because the solid info just keeps being pumped at me page after page. And when this happens, I know it will be a book that I will want to continually learn from & frequently reference. THIS IS THAT TYPE OF BOOK! Immelman not only knows what he's talking about, but knows how to communicate it extremely effectively. This book is a gem - an absolute must have.

Excellent Book — I Didn’t Realize Golf Architecture Could Be So Interesting

I bought two copies of this book, one for my fellow golf-obsessed buddy, and one for myself. I very much enjoyed the content, lots of good history nuggets and plenty of insight into the world of professional golf. This book sent me on a handful of YouTube and Wikipedia rabbit holes to do additional research on the people and courses mentioned—to me, the mark of an interesting and engaging narrative.

A great read for anyone who loves the game of golf

It is obvious that Mark Immelman has been a student of the game his entire life. Lessons from the Best is a fantastic read that mixes stories and teaching moments from Mark and those he has interviewed throughout his career. What sets Lessons from the Best apart is that it reads not with the droning of another golf textbook but as a highly relatable collection of short stories that bring us closer to these legends . And the best part? There's always a valuable lesson for every player, regardless of their skill level. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who shares a love for the game of golf. You're in for a treat!
